Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) absorb heat from the outside air. This heat is then used to provide renewable heating and hot water to your home. Heating can be achieved via radiators, underfloor heating or warm air convectors and can even be fitted into existing systems with minor upgrades sometimes required. An ASHP uses simple refrigeration technology to extract heat from the outside air which allows it to work efficiently even at outside temperatures as low as -20°C.
In general, Heat Pumps need some electricity to run however the heat generated far outweighs the energy required to run the heat pump. For example, if the Air Source Heat Pump is running at a temperature of 35°C, it’s around 400% efficient meaning that for every 1kWh of electricity the ASHP uses, it generates over 4kWh of heat.
